IN JANUARY, the British House of Lords backed an amendment to the Children and Families Bill that would empower ministers to make it illegal in England to smoke in a car with a child inside. In February, the House of Commons approved the amendment, clearing the way for the ban to be implemented.

The amendment is only the latest example of British legislators’ nannying tendencies when it comes to tobacco. In 2007, bans on smoking in enclosed public spaces and work environments were implemented in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The British government is also considering following Australia’s lead and requiring plain packaging for cigarettes.

Proponents of the idea say it’s

for the safety of underage passengers.

The amendment was backed by the British Labour Party, which had promised to make the provision part of its manifesto if the measure did not pass.

Conservative Party members were divided on the measure, with Prime Minister David Cameron backing the provision, and Leader of the Liberal Democrats and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg arguing that the rule would “subcontract responsible parenting to the state.”

Electronic Cigarette Company Offers Relaxed Culture alongside Exponential Revenue and Staffing Growth

TARPON SPRINGS, Fla., April 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ White Cloud Electronic Cigarettes, one of the world&#39 s fastest growing manufacturers of electronic cigarettes and accessories, has been named “Top Small Workplace” in the region by the Tampa Bay Times, in its 2014 “Tampa Bay&#39 s Top Places to Work” survey.

“This award is a tremendous honor for our team,” said Matthew Steingraber, co founder of White Cloud. “While we are extremely proud of our growth, it&#39 s irrelevant without a staff that enjoys coming to work each day. Our team has evolved significantly over the last few years, allowing us to become a premier workplace in this, or any industry.”

Based in Tarpon Springs, FL, White Cloud now has 85 employees, several of which work in other states. This is a far cry from the company&#39 s beginnings in 2008, as a brick and mortar distributor of e cigarettes from mall kiosks.

Today, the company operates primarily online accounting for the majority of its $15 million annual revenue and has moved from distributor to leading producer of e cigarettes. Despite this growth, the workflow has remained unchanged, with regular collaboration between all employees, and few trappings of a traditional corporate environment.

The Tampa Bay Times award comes on the heels of White Cloud&#39 s relocation to its new facility, which is 15,600 square feet larger than its previous headquarters. This additional space was built to meet increasing demand for White Cloud&#39 s products, and to provide a comfortable work environment, complete with remodeled kitchen, exercise equipment, games, and even “tailgate activities,” like ping pong, ladderball and more.

“Our new facility is perfect for White Cloud&#39 s growth potential,” Steingraber continued. “Not only do we have storage space for our inventory, but our team also has the ability to &#39 step away&#39 from their jobs to relax. This is an ever changing industry, and the work can be intense. Giving staff the chance to decompress has made White Cloud much more productive and successful.”
