Police are seeking four men after a tobacconist’s shop north of Wellington selling legal highs was hit in an armed robbery.
Legal highs, party pills and cigarettes were taken from the Discount T shop at Cobham Court in Porirua this morning, police said.
One man aged in his 20s has been arrested immediately after the incident and charges have yet to be laid, Detective Sergeant Dave Jones said.
Porirua police were still seeking four other young men seen leaving after the robbery about 8.20 this morning, he said.
It appeared they had entered the shop armed with knives while a shopkeeper was inside before opening time.
They had not broken in and the shopkeeper was not hurt in the aggravated robbery, Jones said.
Last Friday the same shop was allegedly hit in a legal highs shoplifting incident.
One man has been charged in relation to the theft, Jones said.
It was unknown at this stage how much stock was taken in today’s incident, he added.
A witness at Cobham Court this morning, David Hoare, said he saw a group of men wearing blue bandanna run out of the shop about 9am.
No gang links were known at this stage, Jones said.
Associate Health Minister Peter Dunne announced last weekend that all synthetic drugs would be banned within two weeks until they were proven safe.
